Reclaiming the waterfront, Queens West will create over 20 acres of parks, including a 1 ¼ mile esplanade near the rivers edge. Areas within the park space will be set aside for both active and passive recreation, and will easily accommodate special events and activities such as street festivals or concerts. The old railroad transfer bridges at Gantry Plaza have been preserved and transformed into urban sculptures. They lend texture to the renovated piers, and save a link to the historic roll of Hunters Point in the development of Queens. |
