Development in Queens West is governed by the project’s General Project Plan (GPP).
The GPP overrides New York City zoning and regulates what can be built (type of
use, height restrictions, bulk, design guidelines, etc.) on each development
parcel in the Queens West project.
Seven residential buildings have already been constructed in the Queens West
project, which provide over 2,600 units of housing, over 120,000 square feet of
retail space, a public school (pre-k through grade 5), and affordable housing
for seniors.
Ultimately, the project will include 4.3 million square feet of residential
space, 175,000 square feet of retail space, and 140,000 square feet of
residential space.
The project will also include over 13 acres of public parkland, 10 acres of
which has already been constructed. This parkland includes renovated public
piers, a waterfront esplanade, a sportsfield, basketball and handball courts,
and areas for passive recreation.
Public facilities will ultimately include two public schools and a public
library.
